Weaving as Self-Care: A Personal Project

Weaving as Self-Care: A Personal Project

This blog post begins a journey of deliberately using weaving as self-care. Whether you’re also trying to find your me time with young kids, looking for an antidote to work or searching for focus in retirement, join me on this journey. Make a plan. Grab your supplies. Let’s weave!

The idea of self-care changes with the seasons of your life. In my twenties it meant hot yoga and complicated skin care. In my thirties, with a toddler and an infant, it looks more like finding five minutes to take a shower or a moment sitting in the car totally alone listening to music before a doctor’s appointment. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately as I am acutely aware of how important it is to fill my own cup so I can fill my family’s.

Right now, I’m alone and there’s nothing pressing to do. Yes, there is a basket of clean laundry that needs to be folded  and I can’t remember the last time I mopped the floor, but I took this time to get my thoughts on self-care down on paper because this is an important step in a journey of self care postpartum.

I have been planning a tapestry in my head. A series, in fact, based on satellite images of different parts of the world. I came up with the idea a few weeks ago but I just haven’t had the time or brainpower to start thinking about it. My entire office is currently shoved into a corner of the basement (we had to make room for a nursery) and I don’t know where any of my weaving supplies are, exactly, which has made grabbing a loom feel a little bit overwhelming.
