At the end of last year we launched a new kit in collaboration with Noreen Crone-Findlay: The Lily Doll. This project showed us a whole new world of possibilities for our looms. All through the year Noreen has designed clothing and accessories for the Lily Doll project from a hooded cape to a mermaid tail. The doll and accessories are truly wonderful. My daughter treasures hers. Recently she received the mermaid tail as a gift from Sandy (our manager at Mirrix manufacturing who is enjoying the Lily Doll tutorials as much as we are) and her eyes lit up. "She can be a MERMAID!" she gushed, running to her dollhouse.
As the holiday season comes into view, we want to make it as easy as possible for all of you to weave your very own Lily Doll with a Lily Doll Weave-Along. Whether you gift your doll to someone else or keep her for yourself, we promise this is will be a fun and fulfilling project and you'll immediately want to make your doll a tutu and shrug or her own little pet.
Over the course of four weeks, participants in the weave-along will make their very own Lily Dolls. The instructions will be the same ones that come with each doll, but will be supplemented by weekly emails and personalized support as we go through each section together to make our own tiny woven dolls.
A Lily Doll kit or starter package is required to participate in the weave-along. (More on this below)
What is a weave-along?
A weave-along is an online course focusing on a specific project. Every Monday for the length of the weave-along, participants will get an email with links to.PDF instructions for the week ahead. This is not a live event, but does take place over a specific time frame so participants are all working on the same part of the project at generally the same time. Weave-along participants are encouraged to ask questions and engage with other members of the weave-along via email and/or social media sites.
When does this weave-along take place?
Warping: Week of October 21st
Weaving: Week of October 28th
Weaving: Week of November 4th
Finishing: Week of November 11th
What if you cannot take part on these dates?
We will keep all of our weave-along resources live indefinitely so if you are busy during the weave-along you can always catch up later. We will also make the project available for free download after the weave-along takes place.
In this weave-along you will learn:
-How to set-up and warp a Mirrix Chloe Loom
-How to weave a Lily Doll
-How to finish a Lily Doll
What do you need to begin:
-A Chloe Pocket Loom (5" or 8") with 12 dent sett combs
-A ruler or tape measure
-Thick craft glue
-Pencil crayon or pale pink lip gloss or blush for cheeks
-Scissors
-Chopstick or pencil for inserting the stuffing into the doll
-A punched paper heart or heart sticker or charm (optional)
-A Lily Doll kit (Or a starter package, which comes with the loom, kit and a bonus bear kit.)
What if you want to personalize your doll?
The Lily Doll was modeled after a real person, Lily, who is half-Japanese. However, if you would like to switch out the skin color of your Lily Doll, you can swap the two tan bobbins of Glimakra Faro yarn with any other Faro color we have in stock. (See product pages for more on this.) If you want a different hair color, you can purchase two bobbins of a different color of Faro here. (We cannot swap out hair colors in the kit.) If you want to make a male or gender neutral doll from the Lily Doll, Noreen has instructions on how to do that here.
How do you get started?
The Lily Doll kit or starter package is required to participate in the weave-along. If you are buying one, you will receive a paper with a link to sign-up for the weave-along inside of your kit.
