This kit was originally created for our 34th weave-along.
A handwoven purse is the ultimate accessory for anyone who loves functional art. This kit makes a stunning 6.5" x 6.5” woven purse made of Brown Sheep wool, lined with cotton fabric and finished with a colorful rope strap.
This purse was named after the best belle-mère there ever was, Ellen Chase.
The tutorial for this project will teach you:
-How to set-up and warp a Mirrix Loom
-Tapestry techniques: Weaving in opposite directions, sumac, eccentric wefts, shapes
-How to finish a purse including lining and making a rope
-Five one-ounce balls of Brown Sheep yarn in five colors (choose one of two colorways, spring or winter) (Pictured in spring.)
-100 yards of 12/6 Seine Twine warp
-Cotton fabric for lining the purse (color/pattern may vary)
-Downloadable instructions will be sent at the time of shipment.
This kit makes:
A lined woven purse with a rope strap
What else you need to begin:
-A Mirrix Loom 12” through 38” (with an 8 dent warp coil) or an 8" Chloe Pocket Loom with an 8 dent comb and an extended rod
-A good pair of scissors and a measuring tape
-A sewing needle and thread for finishing
-Heddles can be purchased separately if you plan to use the shedding device on a loom that has one (optional for this project.) The tutorial demonstrates weaving on a loom with the shedding device on it.
