2022 Summer Weaving Challenge

2022 summer weaving challenge

Summer is almost here and we’re looking forward to sunshine, longer days and weaving in the sunshine on those longer days. To help keep our wonderful community inspired this July and August, today we are launching Mirrix’s third Summer Weaving Challenge in collaboration with some amazing organizations and artists (see the list of partners at the bottom of this page.)

Every Monday from July 11th through August 29th members of the challenge group will get an email with a new weaving-related challenge. All weavers (tapestry bead or otherwise) are welcome to join, but be prepared to step out of your comfort zone!

Each challenge can be completed at any time through the end of August. When you have finished a challenge you can email us or post about it on social media with the tag #summerweavingchallenge. Sharing makes this challenge even more fun and will make it more likely that you’ll win one of the prizes at the end of the challenge!

Here are some challenge examples from previous challenges:
Give someone a weaving lesson. This could be a young person, a family
member, a friend, a stranger… anyone! Even if you’re a beginner, there’s always someone who can learn from you.
Take your loom out of the house. Go weave in a coffee shop, on the beach, in a park… somewhere where you’ve never taken your loom before.
Weave something totally out of your comfort zone. This challenge gives you permission to make mistakes, to do something crazy or silly and wildly creative.

What you get when you sign up:

-Eight weekly challenge emails

-15% off of the Summer Weaving Challenge Kit

-A personalized digital completion certificate at the end of the challenge

-A chance to win one of three amazing prizes at the end of the challenge

The Kit
We put together a super fun kit of weaving-related goodies that we are selling as a part of this challenge. These materials can be used as you see fit in the different challenges and some of the materials will be featured in specific challenges, but you are not required to purchase this kit to participate. Rebecca Mezoff

Rebecca Mezoff, author of the bestselling book, The Art of Tapestry Weaving, loves nothing more than helping new tapestry weavers untangle the mystery of making images with yarn. Her fledgling career as an expert latch-hooker died before she made it to middle school, but her love of fiber never abandoned her. Now she creates large-format tapestries and is often found weaving in her pajamas which she affectionately calls her “home pants”. She runs an online tapestry school which has over 3,000 members and occasionally she leaves the studio to teach weavers in the real world about color, design, and technique in tapestry. Her current artistic work focuses on human perception and the long scale of geologic time. Her studio is in Fort Collins, Colorado. You can find out more about her on her website and blog at www.tapestryweaving.com.
